Top 10 Bible Questions Christians Ask (and Honest, Biblical Answers)
By Pastor Skip Heitzig | Calvary Church, Albuquerque
Becoming a follower of Jesus Christ is the greatest decision you'll ever make—and with it comes a hunger for answers. The Bible is not just a book; it's God’s Word—His heart revealed to you. As a pastor for many years, I’ve heard many questions from people just like you. So here are ten of the most common—and important—questions Christians ask, along with heartfelt, biblical answers.
1. How do I know I’m really saved?
Answer:
Salvation isn’t about feelings—it’s about faith. If you've placed your trust in Jesus Christ—believing He died for your sins and rose again—you are saved (Romans 10:9-10). Jesus said, "Whoever comes to Me I will never cast out" (John 6:37). Trust His promise, not your performance.
2. Why do bad things happen if God is good?
Answer:
We live in a fallen world—sin has tainted everything (Genesis 3). But God is still good, and He uses pain to draw us closer to Him, to shape our character, and to display His glory (Romans 8:28). Remember, even Jesus suffered—and through His suffering, we were saved.
3. What is God’s will for my life?
Answer:
Start with what’s already revealed: "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances…for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). God’s will is more about who you are becoming than where you're going.
4. How do I grow in my faith?
Answer:
Feed your soul daily. Read your Bible, talk to God in prayer, worship Him, and stay connected with other believers (Acts 2:42). Growth is a process—step by step, day by day. Faith grows by hearing the Word (Romans 10:17).
5. Can I lose my salvation?
Answer:
No. If you're truly saved, your salvation is secure—not because of your grip on God, but because of His grip on you (John 10:28-29). You didn’t earn your salvation, and you can’t lose it by messing up. Grace isn’t fragile—it's rock solid.
6. Why doesn’t God answer all my prayers?
Answer:
Sometimes God says yes, no, or wait. His answers are always loving, even when we don’t understand. James 4:3 says we may not receive because we ask with the wrong motives. But even in silence, He’s working. Trust His heart even when you can’t see His hand.
7. What happens when I die?
Answer:
If you know Jesus, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). No limbo. No waiting room. Just home. For believers, death is not the end—it’s the beginning of eternal life in God’s presence.
8. How do I deal with temptation?
Answer:
Temptation isn’t sin—but giving in is. God provides a way out every time (1 Corinthians 10:13). Memorize Scripture, avoid triggers, and stay accountable. And when you fall? Run back to grace. The same grace that saved you is the grace that keeps you.
9. What if I still struggle with sin?
Answer:
Welcome to the club. The Apostle Paul did too (Romans 7:15-25). Spiritual growth is a battle. But you are no longer a slave to sin (Romans 6:6). Confess, repent, and lean on God’s Spirit to transform you. His power is stronger than your weakness.
10. How do I share my faith with others?
Answer:
Start by loving people well. Then, when the opportunity comes, share your story—how Jesus changed your life. Keep it simple, honest, and focused on the gospel (1 Peter 3:15). You’re not called to argue—just to testify. God does the saving.
Final Thoughts:
Friend, the Christian life is not about having all the answers—but trusting the One who does. Keep asking, keep growing, and keep your eyes on Jesus. We at Calvary Church are here to walk with you every step of the way.
